Peek Into the Podium: Zach Lovett

Another Peek into the podium from a bit back, but that’s my fault as I’d not gotten to put it up. I’ve two more in the wings (Mine and Jeremy Posners). Zach started up only a few years ago, as us old folks reckon it, and has swiftly grown into a competent competitor and a stout opponent. He’s switched between Legion and Circle, and does well with both. Enjoy!

Death Wolves – Skoll, Tala & Caleb: 9

My first list is Baldur 1 in Devourer’s Host Theme. I have been running Baldur for most of MKIII and love the guy. He has a nice spell list that backs up his army and his feat is very strong in a lot of matchups that don’t have Flight or Incorporeal. He has rapid growth which helps block charge lanes and LoS. He has solid ground which prevents knock down and helps with the Ravagers (they have tough) and it also stops blast damage from affecting his control area. Finally he has stone skin which makes him able to crack armor.

The list above is pretty balanced; it can crack armor and can murder troop spam. I have had many games where either the Ravagers or Death Wolves get in to a unit and start using corpse tokens to overtake half an army off the board.  Bloodweavers all have Grievous Wounds which comes in pretty handy in the current meta and can also murder spree through a lot of stuff. Baldur’s feat is what makes him scary, it causes models in his control to lose pathfinder and grants friendly faction models cover. He can push up the field aggressively and set up for a strong alpha. Slower moving lists really have trouble getting in to him and can pretty easily lose on scenario.  It can also play pretty well in to a lot of gun lines. Everything in the list is Def 13+ so if you aggressively run forward and then feat you’re looking at a force that is Def 17-18 and most dedicated gun lines just can’t kill enough to stop a very devastating alpha. My biggest weakness with Baldur is allowing him to get assassinated. He is just low on Fury and whenever I get careless or a bit too aggressive he can go down pretty quickly.

Kreuger 2 was the caster that really got me in to Circle and I have loved playing this guy. He just has so many tools and is incredibly versatile. With the release of the Bones theme list and the CID changes this guy will be a bit more popular. The above list is what I have been playing for a while and plan to take to Adepticon. It has great scenario play, can always threaten assassination, and can also run a good attrition game although clock is a big concern. With the exception of the sprays from the Blackclad solos EVERY other attack in this list can be boosted (damage or attack rolls). That may not seem like a big deal but it is incredibly powerful. The Fulcrum has been a nice addition to the Circle armory, it has 3 shots per turn all of which have side effects like continuous fire or eleap and it helps with fury management as it pulls 3 fury per turn from beasts. Additionally it really ups the accuracy of Blackclads as it has vet leader. Kreuger is effectively Fury 8, Mat and Rat 7 when making attacks within 10” of the Fulcrum.

The best part of the list however is Megalith and the Woldwardens. Now that the Stoneshapers give out +2 Str these guys can hit respectfully in combat at pow 19 or 18 repectively. But the real gem here is Geomancy with Kreuger. They can force for 1 fury to cast one of Kreuger’s spells. Here is what really makes the list shine because they have 3 very versatile choices. Lightning Storm (throw out AOE 3 electrical damage POW 10’s and it is not blast damage it just does a POW 10 to all models hit – also creates a POW 10 hazard for a round). The other two spells are TK and Gallows. This is what makes him such an assassination machine. Threat ranges can be impossible to calculate. The above list can cast a combo of 5 TK’s and/or Gallows. The other sneaky bit here that happens with Megs or the Wardens is that you go in on some enemy model and finish it with your initial attacks. You can THEN use geomancy and pick any of those spells to get more work done.

My final thought on this list is in regards to the Wyrds. If you run up against Circle and see Wyrds in the list do NOT use upkeeps or animi on models you want to have live….just DO NOT do it!! Look forward to seeing you all out there and thanks for reading.
